About the author#

Matthias Wong’s work examines how organisations see, understand, and act in complex environments. His writing spans organisational theory, data, AI, business, and people leadership.

As part of this work, he has led and trained advanced data engineering teams working on high-stakes systems, with a focus on transforming fragmented operational data into usable, decision-ready information.

Principles of Data Engineering forms the technical segment of this broader work: an account of how organisations make reality visible through data, and how engineers can build the representations organisations rely on to exercise sound judgement.

He is especially passionate about uplifting staff from junior to advanced capability, and providing senior advisory to organisational leaders on the effective use of data to steer complex institutions.

Matthias holds a PhD in Computational Mathematics.
